The Bills

My mom and I just spent a while studying our hospital bills for Lydia's delivery.

So freaking depressing.

You think they are hard to stomach when you bring your baby home.
Imagine how hard they are to stomach when you don't bring your baby home.

  1. I'm not sure what your insurance situation is, but please talk to the hospital to see if there's anything they can do to lessen this blow...I've heard a few others have had success in doing this, so I'm really hoping it might be possible for you guys too ♥

  2. Dealing with this now. No insurance, since we came from another country to deliver around family. They were astronomical, and my obgyn didn't charge us... and now, after an audit and a couple of 50% discounts, I still can't stomach it. $7,000 for NOTHING. I would have rather DIED.

I asked the nurses, the doctor, everyone, before I got the epidural, how much it would cost. They didn't know. No one knew. Well, I know now. $5,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, but now it's only $2,200.

In the UAE, an epidural would have cost me $500 (I wasn't planning on getting one. I wanted a water birth). Insurance doesn't cover it. Everyone I asked at the hospital gave me the same number.

    1. 5 grand for an epidural? Good Lord. So you guys came home to deliver Sadie?

    2. Yes, 5 grand. You know, I have started thinking that maybe I want to pay that 7 grand, because it's the last money I will ever pay for Sadie ever again. And then there are days I just want 7,000 people to give me a dollar so I don't have to thank someone for several hundred dollars or even $20. I can thank 7,000 people for giving up a McDonald's coke for the day.

And yes, we did come home. I still need to tell you our story, don't I? Well, it doesn't look like this week is going to slow down at work, so I might try writing that up while I have a minute.

PS- I don't always see replies because sometimes I forget to check the "notify me" box. I just deleted and reposted a comment so I could be notified.
